Immune Response to Hepatitis B Vaccine in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease
نویسنده
چکیده
Despite the use of hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccines and preventive measures, infection with HBV remains a major global health problem. Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at an increased risk of acquiring HBV infections from shared dialysis equipment, increased exposure to blood products, and immunodeficiency associated with CKD (1, 2). In addition, they may be more likely to develop chronic infections on exposure to HBV (1, 2), and HBV infection among CKD patients is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality (3, 4). Vaccination is important both for preventing susceptible patients from acquiring HBV and for reducing the pool of HBVinfected patients. HBV infection remains a concern in dialysis populations, because the vaccination programs have been less successful in these populations than in the general population. The causes of poor seroconversion in CKD patients include malnutrition, uremia, and immunosuppression due to renal failure (5). In the current issue of Hepatitis Monthly, Behnam Hashemi et al. (6) compared the seroconversion rates of patients with different stages of CKD who received the HBV vaccine. The overall seroconversion rate was found

Surface protein mutations in chronic hepatitis B patients who received hepatitis B vaccine therapy
Objective (s):The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between vaccine therapy and appearance of mutations in hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) patients. Materials and Methods: 16 patients received the HBV vaccine and another 16 individuals from the control group did not. The surface gene was amplified and directly sequenced from samples...
متن کاملبررسی اثر واکسیناسیون هپاتیت B و نقش ایمنیزایی دوز یادآور در بیماران با تزریق خون مداوم
Background & Aim: Hepatitis B vaccine is in national vaccination programs. In healthy individuals the immune response is complete d by three-dose injections in 95% of cases and remains complete with time. However, in patients with chronic transfusion this immune response may be incomplete . In such patients, it is advised to check HBs antibody periodically, and use booster dose in cases with ...
متن کاملEffect of selenium on immune response against hepatitis B vaccine with accelerated method in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus patients
Background: Poor response to various vaccines especially hepatitis B is common. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of selenium on immune response against hepatitis B vaccine with accelerated method in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus patients. Methods: In this randomized clinical trial study, 62 insulin dependent diabetic patients were divided into case and control groups (e...
متن کاملImmune Response to Standard Hepatitis B Vaccination in HIV-Infected Patients
Background: Due to their similar routes of transmission, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) co-infection occurs considerably. HBV infection progresses more rapidly in HIV-infected patients. Therefore, HBV vaccination of all non-immune HIV infected patients is recommended. On the other hand, HIV-infected subjects have suboptimal responses to HBV vaccine. In this study...

متن کاملImmunity to Hepatitis B Vaccine in Thalassaemic Patients based on the Time Passed from Vaccination
Background & Aims: Hepatitis B virus is one of the causes of acute and chronic hepatitis. Due to multiple hospitalization and blood transfusion, thalassaemic patients are at higher risk of this infection. Duration of the immunity after vaccination in this high-risk group and the need for booster vaccination is uncertain. The aim of this study was to find antibody titration and immunity to Hepat...
